Among the immediate measures for Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) - CURFEW!

I wonder if Sabahans in Esscom support the idea, and whether the Opposition likes it. Many would call it too drastic and harsh as it will limit the movement of locals in the area.


However, I personally think this is necessary as long as it is for security reasons. As for how long it will be imposed, only the government knows but I hope it's not for long.

Security along the east coast of Sabah will be tightened with the introduction of scheduled curfews and designated sea routes for traffic between Sabah and the southern Philippines.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today, police and military presence would also be beefed up to guard hotspots vulnerable to encroachment and attack by foreign criminal groups.
For starters, a fresh deployment of 330 policemen and 350 soldiers is under way with the personnel being deployed to various areas including resort islands off the east coast of Sabah.
“Designated sea routes and curfews will also be announced soon,” Khalid told a press conference at Bukit Aman following a meeting with Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, military top brass and heads of other enforcement agencies.
He said police will also initiate community policing with villagers and fishermen in the affected areas. It is learnt that the areas of focus are mainly islands off Semporna, apart from the coastline from Kunak to Lahad Datu.

Sometimes we need to take up such measures to safeguard our sovereignty. Nobody likes curfew, even the police and the army hate it but when our domestic security is at stake, it left us to no choice but to act rationally.

However, curfew is not the only outlet as there are other options that need to be considered if we want eastern Sabah to register absolute peace and stability.
