Nope! POTA (Prevention Of Terrorism Act) carries no political agenda. Neither will it be used by the government to silent criticism from the Opposition and anti-Putrajaya NGOs.
Its for counter-terrorism only, and people like Lim Kit Siang, Ambiga, Mat Sabu and Rafizi need not be afraid (unless they promote something to terrorise the people and the country).
Also, trust the police. They are with us, with each and every Malaysian, irrespective of race, religion and politic.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) in defending the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for issuing arrest orders via Twitter, said it was not politically-motivated, and that the police had acted in a professional manner.
"The Home Ministry is of the view that the action taken by the IGP (Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar) is to inform the public on steps taken by security forces and not to instill fear and are not politically motivated," Zahid said in a written reply to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) at the Dewan Rakyat.
And before the Opposition leaders make any move to link POTA with ISA, Zahid reminded them that the new Act will only be used to curb terrorism and will not be used as a replacement for the Internal Security Act (ISA).
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Opposition and non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) fighting for human rights need not worry as the government will not misuse it.
POTA, enacted specifically to address terrorism by militant groups such as the IS, will be tabled in the current sitting of Parliament.

"The police notify the public on actions taken via twitter after taking into consideration issues which may raise public concern. So, let's make it clear that our IGP - as an institution - does not simply act at his whim and fancy. There are always standard guidelines, and he deserves to be respected.
"Such announcements are not against the law and a fast and easy way of spreading information," Zahid said.
Lim had questioned Zahid on Khalid's recent actions against activists, opposition leaders and members of the public over their Tweet messages.
Lim said the IGP was misusing the social media platform and "instilling fear" by publicly instructing the police to take action against certain individuals.

“Only acts of terrorism come under the Act. Conflicting political views are not covered by this law.Zahid was responding to concerns raised by the Opposition that POTA could be misused for the benefit of certain parties. Why are they worry? Are they 'terrorists' and have plan to 'terrorise the country?'
“There is nothing to worry about. Like the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) (Amendment and Extension) Act 2013, the home minister has no executive power,” he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call by the Brunei High Commissioner to Malaysia, Alaihuddin Mohd Taha at his office in Putrajaya today.

Malaysians, irrespective of their background or political affiliation, must give their full support to the proposed Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) to be tabled in the Parliament soon.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the new law is necessary in addressing increasing concern of terror, especially with the influence of Islamic State (IS) in the country.
