A-ah! Interesting story about two 'Pauls'; one being Malaysian PAUL Phua and son who are facing trial in Las Vegas over accusation of running an illegal gambling syndicate during the World Cup 2014, and the other PAUL a lawyer who thinks freedom of speech is a license to insult a religion.
The alleged gambling kingpin Paul Phua - who makes Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as a subject of heavy yet stupid criticism from the Opposition for a letter of clarification sent to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) - is a Malaysian wanting to become rich by using his 'talent'.
The other Paul, however, is simply stupid for deliberately provoked Muslims' wrath over a Tweet that Jakim (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia) promotes extremism every Friday (referring to Friday sermon or 'khutbah').
No difference as both are stupid. However, more stupid are those who don't know the condition of Zahid's letter to the FBI and those who support Eric Paulsen under the 'freedom and human rights' labels.
And when Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters yesterday that the Cabinet was not aware or did not discuss 'Zahid's case', the Opposition leaders (especially DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang) and their anti-BN news portals like Malaysian Insider and Malaysia Chronicle alike came short of brains to accuse Putrajaya of 'allowing what Zahid did'.
Simply stupid! The Cabinet did not discuss it because it was not a matter of policy or administration. The letter was requested by Paul Phua's counsel Shafee Abdullah, and of course as a lawyer (like any others) will do anything to safe his client.
And the brouhaha about a part of the letter where Zahid mentioned Phua 'has helped matters of national security', the government (I and many others believe) feels the matter is with the police. From information I gathered, Phua has no police record in Malaysia but what he had or is doing abroad is subjected to laws in those countries.
And he is still innocent until proven guilty. Also, he is a Malaysian, and any government would do anything to provide assistance (including legal) to any of their countryman facing such problems in other country.
You think its easy to put an American to trial in Malaysia or in other countries? Unless the US feels Phua should face trial in Malaysia, it will be a different story but as a Malaysian, it is our responsibility to see that he gets a fair trial unless the Opposition thinks 'he better die and rot' in the US!
The 'security' matters in Zahid's letter also cannot be made public. Please take note that details of national security are very confidential and not for everybody to know. If Phua is a bad guy abroad, he may had assisted the authority in some cases.
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Muhyiddin and the rest probably understand the situation, and for that very reason Zahid's letter was not discussed. So, what's the fuss?
However, this lawyer PAULsen is under investigation for his own stupidity. Credits must be given to Bukit Aman and Zahid for acting fast or there is a possibility what happened in Paris might also happen here in our country.
Why? Because more and more provocations and insults are made about Islam and the Muslims. What had JAKIM done to deserve such a bashing from a non-Muslim. If JAKIM promotes extremism on every Friday, what is the guarantee that churches do not promote extremism on Sundays?
And even his lawyer friends who support his overdoing failed to realise what Malaysia is all about. Liberty, human rights and absolute freedom above their head, they steamroll anything that tries to stop them, including the aspiration of Malaysians in majority for such 'dangerous stupidity' to stop!

Lawyer Eric Paulsen who was held on Monday night for an alleged seditious comment on Twitter will spend the next two days in detention after police obtained a remand order at the KL magistrates' court today. The Opposition and the group of so-called moderates have been talking about promoting interfaith and inter-religion trust and cooperation but they are the ones who shut their mouth when people like Paulsen puts peace and stability at risk.
Paulsen, who is a founding member of the Lawyers for Liberty and is being investigated under the Sedition Act is under the custody of Dang Wangi police.
He was arrested in Petaling Jaya on Monday night by a police team from Dang Wangi.
Paulsen had allegedly posted a comment on Twitter last week claiming the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) was promoting extremism in sermons at mosques during weekly prayers on Friday.
Certain quarters including Umno members took offence over the comment before lodging police reports urging the authorities to act against the lawyer for allegedly insulting Islam.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement today that police had acted on Paulsen as a measure to safeguard the peace and harmony among races in the country.
He said the lawyer's arrest was carried out within the perimeters of the law and it should not be politicised or manipulated to cause public unrest.
"Do not take the peace we have achieved in the country lightly or be arrogant when taking advantage of freedom of speech. We warn that police will not hesitate to take action against any party with a hidden agenda that affects national security." he said.
And even his lawyer friends who support his overdoing failed to realise what Malaysia is all about. Liberty, human rights and absolute freedom above their head, they steamroll anything that tries to stop them, including the aspiration of Malaysians in majority for such 'dangerous stupidity' to stop!
Hey! I am against any form of race and religious extremism. Many others do. For a nation like Malaysia to experience another traumatic Charlie Hebdo who defies calls by the Muslim World to stop insulting Prophet Muhammad, they instead vowed to print three million copies of it.
And people like Paulsen will learn nothing from that, I suppose...Charlie Hebdo will feature a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed in a special "survivor's issue" of the magazine produced after last week's massacre. The illustrated image will show the bearded figure with a tear in his eye under the message "all is forgiven".
A total of three million copies of the magazine will be printed in several languages - instead of its usual 60,000 - when it goes on sale on Wednesday.
The cover of the magazine has been published online by the Liberation newspaper.
It is the first edition since two Islamist gunmen stormed Charlie Hebdo's headquarters in Paris on 7 January and killed 12 people, in apparent revenge for the publication of cartoons featuring the prophet.
