Insensitive! That's how I would describe Penang's Mohd Zaid Mohd Said in his speech at the just-concluded Umno general assembly.
Not proper to accuse the Penang Chinese of getting rich thru ill-gotten activities like vice and gambling.
We keep listening to such bigotry every year, at every Umno assembly. And when the non-Malays felt they were being bullied by Umno, we can't just blame them. I personally believe PM and Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak didn't approve such lamentations.
So, not wrong at all for MCA to protest:
There are many rich Malays too, including among Umno top brass. Some are into business, and that is good.
However, what about others who became millionaires 'overnight'? Getting government contracts through the back door is also illegal and not proper, especially when many contractors had to queue up to buy tender forms and BQs (build of quantities) by spending a lot of money for it.
The non-Malays are not getting the same treatment the Malays and Bumiputra get. No discount and no special subsidy for them.
After 65 times of general assemblies, Umno should be able to choose the right delegates to speak at the forum. Unless its a close one, you may shoot whoever you want. But we are the center of attention, and that attention must augur well in winning their trust and confidence.
I am always with Umno, and with BN as well. I am also with the moderate non-Malays and other Malaysians. Some readers may criticise me but Umno needs to change for the better of the Malays... and also for the better of Malaysians!

MCA Penang condemns wild accusation that ill-gotten wealth led to success of Penang Chinese.
In the harshest terms, MCA Penang rebukes UMNO Penang delegate Datuk Mohd Zaid Mohd Said for falsely accusing the Penang Chinese of having “made a lot of money and gained political power by being involved in illicit economic activities such as illegal gambling, prostitution and entertainment outlets (The Malaysian Insider, 28 November 2014). Not only is such a slur inappropriate, it is highly inflammatory and may destroy our nation’s harmonious multi-racial relationships overnight.
It is pathetic Mohd Zaidi seeks to score cheap political mileage by resorting to rubbish claims of magnifying “vice activities” to slander the Penang Chinese. Not only has he ignored the qualities of hardworking Chinese, he neglects the contributions of Malaysian Chinese towards Penang and the nation and has offended the feelings of the Chinese community at large.
They are our fellow BN members, have you forgotten? And yet we talk about good and closer cooperation with the Chinese party in preparing Barisan Nasional for the next general election, three or four years from now.
