Najib should consider leaving Finance Ministry

I think Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should consider stepping down as the Finance Minister, not because he has failed (he has done quite well in some aspects) but his duty as the No. 1 is already 'heavy duty'.

He must instead appoint someone capable of managing the portfolio as this will brush off accusations of malpractice, cronyism and favoritism. He should focus more on other boiling issues hitting the country at the moment and also Malaysia's responsibility at the UN Security Council and Asean's chairmanship next year.

I believe MITI Minister Mustapa Mohamed is capable for the post while Hosni Hanazlah and Ahmad Maslan can be retained at their respective position.

No, I am not echoing what the opposition has said because there are also suggestion by Umno and BN leaders for Najib to take that move. However, I had written a few times on similar issue.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was today urged to step down as the Finance Minister following his alleged failure in overcoming the country’s financial problems.
Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament, Raja Kamarul Bahrain Shah said this in response to an open letter to MPs from Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
“Many feel that Najib should resign as the Finance Minister as there are too many responsibilities under him causing a conflict of interests.
“There are too many problems in the country which need the attention of the Prime Minister, like racial issues, sensitive religious matters and the rising crime rate.
“The problem of not achieving a developed nation status by 2020 is also an economic problem which is worrying,” he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby. He was elaborating on an open letter from Tengku Razaleigh on Oct 31.He said Tengku Razaleigh or “Ku Li” as he is known was an Umno and Barisan Nasioanl leader who truly understood the problems of the country. “He is from Umno and BN and understands the situation in the country. He does not need any international consultants who cost millions and are unable to resolve the problem.” The open letter from Ku Li, among others stated the Member of Parliament’s concern over the country’s economic status which he claimed had failed to achieve stability. He was also of the view that the imposition of the GST would further add to the people’s burdens and asked that it be postponed till the economy was more stable.
It will be a good move. Former PM Tun Mahathir has held the position after deputy Anwar Ibrahim was sacked and sent to jail. Pak Lah continued with it and then Najib.

However, what Dr Mahathir did must not be set as a precedent as the scenario was different back then.

Najib must consider this. It will augur well in keeping his and his family's name 'intact and clean' from unscrupulous allegations of corruption and wrongdoing. It will serve BN and the country well too.
