Those earning more than RM10,000 per month will not enjoy any fuel subsidy, a minister said yesterday.
The question is, how to distinguish someone's monthly earning? What mechanism or formula will be used? His basic wage? Or his 'other income and perks'?
How do we describe a member of Parliament whose monthly allowance of RM10,000 can afford 2 bodyguards and a driver? Forget his new bungalow or his E250 or 535i. If he doesn't 'generate' income from other sources, you think he can afford all that?
Just like determining who should get BR1M and who should not. However, some 'who should not' also got it, depriving many 'who should' of the aid.
We are aware of some VIPs and rich people getting low-cost houses, taxi permits and other facilities allocated for the middle-and-low income brackets. And what about Kelas A contractors mauling small jobs for Kelas D, E and F?
Not going to be easy. In a corrupt society, someone with a basic wage of RM1,500 can 'earn' up to RM10,000 or RM20,000 per month.
Politicians - BN and PR alike - sendiri mau tau la!

KUALA LUMPUR: Those who earn more than RM10,000 per month will not enjoy any fuel subsidy under the subsidy rationalisation scheme to be implemented next year. The government may be strict in so many admin matters but monitoring and enforcement are the main problems. In announcing this Monday, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said the programme would be divided into three tiers.
"Those earning below RM5,000 per month will receive full subsidy while those earning between RM5,000 and RM10,000 will get a partial subsidy," he told reporters after officiating the Bank Rakyat International Islamic Banking Conference here.
However, he said the full mechanism was still being studied by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.
