Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Bakri Zinin’s 39 years of service has finally come to an end as he retires from the police force.

His duties will be taken over temporarily by Police Management Department director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

In his farewell speech at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur, Bakri said he felt proud and lucky to have served the force and the public.

“The force has changed the luck of a small village boy, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have been given the opportunity to change my life and my family’s,” said Bakri, who had to pause for a minute as he held back his tears.

The 60-year-old was the first Sabahan to have held the position and when asked if he planned to run for a public role, he said: “If the public trust me and want me to, I will gladly do so.”

Bakri had been with the police force since Nov 6, 1975. He started his career as a probationary inspector at a young age of 21.

During his tenure, he had served as the district police chief of Kudat, Lahad Datu and Dang Wangi, among many others.

In 2003, Bakri was appointed as the director of Sabah Crime Investigation Department.
He quickly climbed the ranks and in May last year, he was made the country’s Deputy IGP.

“Once a policeman, always a policeman,” he said.

NOTE:THANK YOU and SELAMAT BERSARA Tan Sri. I personally believe he can still contribute to national security. PM Najib should consider... as Esscom commissioner, perhaps!
