A Malaysian identified as Mat Soh or Abu Turab (pic), has reportedly been killed in a gun battle while 'defending' a village in Syria.
The matter was disclosed by former committee member of Pas’ Dewan Ulama Mohd. Lotfi Ariffin through his Facebook page.
It was alarming. Good to have 'brave people' around us; they should join our security forces.According to him, he had asked Mat Soh to rest for a while during the battle in the front line as he relieved him.“After an hour of fighting, a tank suddenly fired a shot, hitting Mat Soh who collapsed to the ground,” Lotfi wrote in his Facebook account. He said that another friend who was close by had heard Mat Soh recite the Kalimah Syahadah.A Bukit Aman spokesman confirmed the matter and said the police were investigating the veracity of the claim.
However, to die fighting in a foreign land doesn't make us heroes. Did the Syrians asked Malaysians to fight alongside with them when they themselves are well split and killing each others.
Its a civil war in Syria, mostly among Muslims!
Its a pity that a man like Mat Soh had to become a victim of 'syahid propaganda'. If its true that he was defending a Muslim village from assaults by another Muslim group, I choose to make no further comment. It was just like defending a Syrian from another Syrian.
We sympathise with the Syrians, the Libyans, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Rohingyans and many more. The best we can do is provide them with humanitarian aids like what we are doing for the Palestinians in Gaza.
I think its time for PAS (and the government) monitor Malaysians' movement in the areas of conflict. Any participation would also lead to diplomatic repercussion between our country and Syria.
My condolence to Mat Soh's family. Al-Fatehah...
