Finally, it happens. The much awaited and well-anticipated move came today when the Umno Supreme Council meeting decided on two 'not easy to make' decisions.
First, sacking deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah mentri besar Mukhriz Mahathir; and at the same time puts vice-president Shafie Apdal on suspension pending full investigation by the disciplinary board.
And second, to stop funding Tun Dr Mahathir's Perdana Leadership Foundation.

Some may see the moves as 'too harsh' while others may just support it after evaluating the events and incidents that led to the decision.
The Umno Supreme Council has sacked party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, effective immediately.Party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak also said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal had been suspended pending a report from the Umno disciplinary committee.“The Supreme Council has unanimously decided to sack Muhyiddin and Mukhriz for breaking party rules, especially when they shared a stage with Opposition leaders to attack the party leadership.“Therefore, based on their actions, the Supreme Council has decided to sack the both of them (from the party).“As for Shafie, the Supreme Council has decided to suspend his membership until we receive the report from the disciplinary committee,” said Najib, who is also prime minister said after chairing the Supreme Council meeting at the PWTC, today.
Najib said the Supreme Council would also request the government to stop channeling funds to the Perdana Leadership Foundation, led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The issue arose following Umno Youth Vice-Chief Khairul Azwan Harun’s suggestion for the government to stop all financial assistance to the foundation.
He said while the party welcomed constructive criticism, its members should not cross the line.
“When you go against this principle, action must be taken. There has to be some kind of a reaction from the party or else we will be seen as impotent.”
This afternoon, Dr Mahathir, in a blog post, said he had no qualms about funding being cut for the foundation.
Mahathir said he was ready to have the foundation taken away from him but was only sad at the thought of the country’s future.
“I wish to thank Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul for suggesting the government stop all financial assistance to the Perdana Leadership Foundation, including wages.
“I accept this. Seize it … I will not feel loss when the seizure is made,” wrote the nation’s longest-serving former premier.

“Based on his suggestion, the Supreme Council has unanimously decided that we will ask the government to cease all forms of financial contributions to the foundation.Supreme Council member Reezal Naina Merican had earlier confirmed that the issue was among the topics discussed during the meeting.
“This includes the allocation provided for its maintenance and also the employees provided for the running of the foundation,” he told a press conference.
According to Najib, who is also the prime minister, the foundation had been used as a meeting centre to discuss and formulate plans aimed at toppling the “democratically elected” government through unconstitutional means.
“Hence, there is no reason for the government to continue providing the foundation with any form of contribution.
“Its employees will be given proper termination notice soon.”
