The running news is:
Even deputy home minister Nur Jazlan has suggested the need for the system be upgraded.
It seems that the problems did not only persist at the entry points. Those who deal with the department's counter service everyday would give more or less similar answers - slow and painstaking.
But please do not blame the immigration officers. Could be the system. When was the system last installed and enhanced, and how much was spent?
It was only last week when the PAC came up with reports that about RM10.3 million was paid by the immigration for 'unused system'. So, please find out what actually went wrong and where the money went.
Maybe the problem lies within the government procurement segment, including that of KDN and the Immigration Dept.
We keep on accepting and engaging 'old and obsolete' system because of the political connection with leaders and politicians of the previous regimes. We continue to award some contracts directly as appreciative symbol to friends and cronies.
We keep being ignorance of the potential of other companies and suppliers who offer better service at a cheaper price. Why? Because some government officers are just too lazy to entertain, test and endorse it.
Corruption could add to it. Otherwise, Malaysia won't be that high up on international graft index!
Just like the re-hiring program. We keep allowing existing companies already making tonnes of money, to do it by using old system and application. And at the same time, we rejected those new players wanting to offer something much better than that.
Zahid is right, and so is Nur Jazlan. There was sabotage in the form of ignorance!
Then, who to blame? The system?
The Government believes the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs) was sabotaged, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.A bad picture of our security system at the entry points nationwide. The screening system, its glitches and other problems have led to a political polemic.
He said Immigration director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi and the police would name several of the perpetrators in due course.
“But do not think that’s the end of it, monitoring is ongoing. There is no room for abuse of power, corruption or sabotage.
“My stand, from the beginning, is that the saboteurs, no matter their position, will not escape the full brunt of the law,” he told reporters after chairing a coordination committee meeting on the development of Kuala Kangsar yesterday.
