IGP warns of Pakatan MPs arrest

Pakatan Harapan lawmakers could be arrested if they proceed with a march from Parliament to Bukit Aman this morning to protest the detention of PKR’s Rafizi Ramli, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) noted that the Peaceful Assembly prohibited moving assemblies or street protests of any kind, and advised the parliamentarians planning to make the march to observe the law.

“Yes, we will,” he told Malay Mail Online yesterday when asked if the police will make arrests if the MPs insist on walking the 1km from Parliament to the federal police headquarters.

Khalid also said that action would be taken if they gather in front of Bukit Aman. The IGP earlier issued a similar warning on Twitter.

The march is to protest the arrest of Rafizi outside the Parliament guardhouse on Tuesday, which the Pakatan Harapan lawmakers insist was a violation of the legislature.

A police team detained the Pandan MP as he was preparing to exit the compound, for his alleged distribution of a document that was classified under the Official Secrets Act 1972.

He is currently being held on a three-day remand order that police secured yesterday.

(NOTE: I think they will defy the Peaceful Assembly act)
