The immigration records of murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu are intact and have not been deleted, says Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi.
“Police have investigated the entry and exit records of the deceased Altantuya Shaariibuu through the Immigration Department and found that the records are in the system,” he said in a parliamentary written reply to Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKR-Indera Mahkota).
“Therefore, the issue does not arise that the said records were deleted by any party,” said Zahid, who is also Home Minister.
Fauzi had asked the minister to state whether the police had investigated claims of Altantuya’s disappearance from the immigration register and the outcome of the probe, including whether the police had identified any culprits of the alleged deed.
Allegations had previously surfaced, particularly from Altantuya’s family, that her immigration records were removed from the system in an attempt to cover up the actual cause of her murder.
Abdul Razak Baginda, who stood trial for the murder of the Mongolian national in 2006, was acquitted in 2008.
The authorities had also cleared Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (then the deputy prime minister) of any involvement in the case.
