I can't recall any Barisan Nasional MPs or State Assemblymen disputing the integrity of their respective Speaker, nor had I came across someone 'as stubborn and stuck up' like Lim Kit Siang. There were cases involving the opposition lawmakers but it was settled by a simple apology.
Unlike Lim, the 'Mr Perfect' who probably looks down at others.
He faces a possible suspension of up to six months from Dewan Rakyat sittings after it was deemed that he has no intention to apologise over his alleged accusations about the Speaker.
This was decided by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee after finding that the Gelang Patah MP was not in the House when he was required to state his stand regarding the issue on Wednesday.
“The notice on the motion was circulated to the MPs this afternoon,” he said.
Yesterday, Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia had demanded that Lim make an unconditional apology over alleged accusations that he (Pandikar Amin) abused his powers as Speaker to sabotage investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), when debating the motion on the appointment of the new chairman for the Public Accounts Committee, on Monday.
The decision by Kiandee caused an uproar in the House with several MPs objecting to it.
The MPs said Kiandee had misunderstood Pandikar Amin’s decision on the time frame given to Lim to state his stand.
Among them Khalid Samad (Amanah-Shah Alam), Jimmy Wong (DAP-Kota Kinabalu), Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai), R.Sivarasa (PKR-Subang) and Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang) voiced out that confusion arose when Azalina tabled a motion to extend today’s sitting from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
“What was not explained was that the explanation by Gelang Patah was to be made at 5.30pm … I also heard and deemed the matter had been postponed to tomorrow,” said R. Sivarasa.
“We were also shocked when Pengerang (Azalina) moved a motion to extend the sitting by an hour, we thought it was to be another hour of debate on the haze,” said Khalid.
Earlier, the proceedings had become very heated when the opposition wanted the notice on the motion on Lim’s suspension to be withdrawn before the MP had explained himself. This resulted in Pandikar Amin asking Azalina to withdraw the notice to be fair to Lim.
“If Gelang Patah had followed my orders on Monday, there is no need for this notice,” he said, stressing that the filing of the notice did not mean it was accepted for debate.
He added that according to the Standing Orders, whatever the mistake, if an apology was made it was deemed as most dignified.
Pandikar Amin also stressed that Lim had been given more than enough time to state his stand. Lim was in the House at about 4pm and was given the opportunity by Deputy Speaker Mohamad Ismail Said to explain himself, but did not do so.
PS: Come on Lim... just comply. Sometimes the Dewan Rakyat is so 'dull' without people like you...hehehe!

“I was informed that the Speaker had made a decision for Gelang Patah (Lim) to state his stand after the debate on the motion on transboundary haze (today) as to whether he will make an unconditional apology and withdraw his accusations or not.Kiandee, when approached by reporters later, said the motion to suspend Lim would be tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said at 11.30am tomorrow.
“But Gelang Patah is not here (in the House), so we deem he has no intention to withdraw his accusations,” Kiandee said.
