What a shame!

"The Chinese government opposes terrorism and any form of discrimination against races and any form of extremism... and Beijing will not fear voicing out against incidents which threatened the interests of our citizens in doing business here or disrupt the relationship between Malaysia and China.".

That's what Chinese ambassador Dr Huang Huikang said during his visit to Petaling Street on Friday.

During his visit, Dr Huang, his wife, along with other officials from the Chinese embassy presented traders with moon cakes in conjunction with the Mid Autumn Festival.

(NOTE: I like it but at the same time would want to question his motive by saying ...THE INTERESTS OF OUR CITIZENS IN DOING BUSINESS HERE... (Petaling Street or elsewhere?)

(It was a strong statement, a warning to Malaysia although (I believe) he was refering to the planned Red Shirt rally in the Chinatown tomorrow.

Its a shame to our diplomatic standing. As a senior diplomat, such a statement was tantamount to issuing warnings to the host nation and a sign of inteference.

Although his good intention should be welcomed by Malaysians, Dr Huang should have considered our bilateral, especially at this time of Malaysian politics.)

He was impressed that Malaysia's Chinatown was not run solely by the Chinese but also comprised of traders of various races.

"Business is good here. There are many tourists. I am proud to see Chinese traders working closely with Malay and Indian traders in harmony in developing this area," he said.

He added that it would be sad if the peaceful environment was destroyed by those with questionable intentions, referring to the planned red-shirt rally on Saturday.

Dr Huang said he was confident that the police would ensure public order.

On another note, he said the embassy was aware of the terrorist threat at Jalan Alor as well as travel advisories issued by the US and Australian embassies.

"We will monitor the situation closely," Dr Huang added.

Still, its okay.

In related developments, Red-shirt protesters have been told to stop their threats of holding another rally in Petaling Street tomorrow.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Muhamad said the red shirts already had their say during their rally on Sept 16.

“Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos should stop. Going further with another rally might actually be counter-productive to his previous efforts.

“A chance was given to him and his group to express their concerns but now, enoughlah, stop,” Nur Jazlan told The Star yesterday.

He said Malaysians were given the leeway to exercise their freedom of speech but the buck should stop when racial sensitivities are touched.

“That is why the police are taking action. Even as a Malay, putting aside my position as a deputy minister and Umno member, I think he should stop,” added Nur Jazlan.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice-president Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa asked why Jamal and the red shirt protesters wanted to hold another rally if they had conveyed their message clearly on Sept 16.

“Are you saying your first rally was not a success so you need another one? People don’t go doing big rallies every week.

“Bersih held rallies only once a year and even those had big messages conveyed and they didn’t go around threatening people.”

He said the Sept 16 rally had already tarnished the nation due to the “racist messages and slurs”, which did not help the country move forward.

So, please stop the nonsense, Jamal!
