House arrest? Bad idea!

Anwar Ibrahim deserves medical treatment, yes. Even Prime Minister Najib Razak has directed relevant parties to assist him.

However, the idea of putting him on house arrest is (I think) unacceptable. Bad idea, so to say. He is just another prisoner like the others. He is not a political detainee; neither is he 'a prisoner of conscience' as dubbed by Amnesty International.

If he needs proper treatment, send him to a hospital.

But I believe its not only Anwar who needs that 'check up'. His lawyer Sivarasa too, for what he alleged as 'poor treatment' given to the former Opposition Leader.
“Anwar is being held in solitary confinement in a bare cell, having a bucket for bathing, a squat toilet, and being held in hot and humid conditions with minimal ventilation... These are exacerbating his health problems.”
“In addition, he has received only rare family visits, despite a doctor recommending he be allowed to see his family weekly. Requested visits with counsel are often denied.”
Is is that bad? Then how come other prisoners - estimated at 40,000 - did not complaint? Answer is - they get equal treatment, and what Sivarasa said could just be another exaggeration to draw international attention and condemnation.

But still, we need answers from the authority, namely the Home Ministry and the Prison Department.

Anwar has been jailed since 10 February for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008, charges which he has denied.

The Federal Court had quashed his appeal and upheld his conviction. Foreign observers, especially his friends and sympathisers, notably Amnesty have designated him a prisoner of conscience, calling the court’s judgment against him an attempt to silence government critics.

Najib did not comment anything about the house arrest. He only said he has been informed on the ill health of jailed PKR de facto leader condition and has ordered the relevant parties to provide necessary medical treatment.

The PM's concern must not be translated as 'agreeing' to such demands.

"I take note of Anwar's heath and I want the relevant parties to make sure he receives necessary treatment," he said via Twitter this evening.

NOTE:If Anwar is given a house arrest, may as well we provide similar 'privilege' to other sick prisoners. Go ask them, I think 99 per cent will tell you they are not guilty!
