And here comes Rizal

A few hours after Shahidan Kassim defended Rosmah Mansor at the Dewan Rakyat today, her close aide Rizal Mansor (they are not siblings, of course) came to her defense against the 'RM820k' handbag.

While Minister at the PM Dept clarified her role with Permata, Rizal explained about the auctioned handbag, which he claimed was misinterpreted and fabricated.

Rosmah has been linked to the auctioned Hermes bag worth a whopping RM820,000 at Christie’s Hong Kong recently.

Following the widely reported auction in which a 2014 edition of a Hermes bag was sold, a picture of Rosmah clutching a similar looking handbag has been circulating online along with the picture of the auctioned bag, drawing the ire of netizens.

“It is as if to show that Rosmah is the individual who bought that handbag,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay Mail Online.

Looking to vindicate Rosmah of any wrongdoing, Rizal chanced upon a picture of her carrying a bag looking very similar to the one auctioned, the only difference being that the photograph was taken years ago before the auctioned bag was even created.

“After checking, I found that the photo of Rosmah is an old photo taken four years ago at the Bunga Raya Complex in KLIA when Najib and Rosmah were leaving the country,” said Rizal.

Since the bag that was put up for auction was a design made in 2014 as stated in a Wall Street Journal report, it was simply illogical to assume that Rosmah was the private collector.

Christie’s had made a statement that there was an overwhelming number of private Asian collectors who made the bid and that the buyer had opted to remain anonymous.

The fuchsia Hermès Birkin with diamonds has set the record as the most expensive handbag sold at an auction.

Well, I wonder why must people like Rizal pays too much attention on the prime minister's wife. If she is clean, she is clean.

Producing so many stories about her may lead (it happens already) to perception that she sometimes 'over rule' the big boss and the mainstream media. I believe there are other channels to hightlight her.

And I've never came across a First Lady (is she our First Lady?) getting daily coverage on TV and newspaper. Lying low is best to help boost her husband's image, and the impact will be more when she 'comes out' once in a while.

However, its her choice...and Najib's too...
