Effective June 1, Malaysian registered vehicles will enjoy a smooth ride crossing the Asean Bridge as the RM10 toll will no longer be imposed.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, in announcing the abolishment of the toll collection, hoped it would reduce the burden of motorists who had to frequently cross the bridge that linked Malaysia and Brunei.

Rate reduction and abolishment only covered 'cheap' areas. In some places where different concessions meet at interchanges, we have to pay multiple tolls within a 5-km route. The government has to look into this.

"I would like to thank Shin Yang Group of Companies for their cooperation in abolishing toll for the benefit of Malaysian motorists," he said at the 10th Miri City anniversary here Saturday night.The announcement of toll abolishment in the State was the second announced with the first being for the Lanang bridge in Sibu when Adenan announced the abolition of toll of RM0.50 for motorcycle, RM3 (car), RM5 (van and four-wheel-drive) and RM10 (lorry and bus) to come into effect on May 25.
Officially opened on Aug 30, 2003, the RM178-million bridge is the vital link for those intending to drive from Miri to Brunei, Limbang and Kota Kinabalu with a toll of RM10 for a one-way trip.
