Muslims in Selangor can sell alcohol

The Selangor government has no ruling or policy imposed on Muslims to prohibit them from being involved in the sales of the alcohol in the state including at 24-hour convenience stores.

Wah lan ney! This is interesting.

Is this a 'retained policy' of the previous state government? I'm not sure but in other states, the local councils usually bar Muslims from selling or stocking up 'haram items'. They won't get the license.

However, hats off to MB Azmin Ali and his Excos.
In response to Datuk Amiruddin Setro (BN-Jeram), state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah (DAP-Sri Kembangan) said this was because there was no such condition stated in the sales of alcohol licences.
“However, Muslims in the state are encouraged to disassociate themselves from the sale of alcohol and related activities,” he told the state legislative assembly here on Thursday.
In his question, Amiruddin asked if the state had plans to set a policy to bar Muslims from being involved in the sales of alcohol as it was against the Islamic faith.
Ean Yong, who is in charge of local government, new village development and the legalising of factories, said that the state government was already taking steps to self-regulate on the sales to Muslims, including those who were underage.
“The licence to sell alcohol is issued by the local authorities with the approval from the police, customs and health departments,” he said.
He added that the state also has set up a committee chaired by district officers, who will decide on the licence.
No wonder why Pakatan Rakyat is so much against the Islamic Law (hudud) in Kelantan.

"No beer, no politics"?
